Man Injured In Lauderdale Lakes Shopping Plaza Shooting

LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) – One man was critically injured when gunfire erupted at a Broward shopping center Tuesday night.

It happened just before 9 p.m. at the plaza at 2542 N. State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes.

An employee of a coin laundry in the plaza said the man, later identified as 20-year old Gerry Metayer, was talking with a group of guys outside the Club Xtasy Café when he was shot. Several people in the plaza heard the gunfire and called 9-1-1.

"We believe the victim was on bicycle and again witnesses said they heard gunshots in the area. Responding deputies got there within seconds and found the man injured on the ground right in front of that coin laundry next to his bicycle," said Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella.

Metayer man was rushed to the hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office searched the area with K-9s and a helicopter but was unable to find the gunman.
