MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — One of the original stars of “West Side Story Suite” will join the Miami City Ballet for the company’s premiere.

Tony Award-winner Chita Rivera will join the dance company for a discussion about the ballet that choreographer Jerome Robbins created from his work for the musical. Rivera played the character of Anita when “West Side Story” debuted on stage in 1957.

Rivera’s presentation will be part of the ballet company’s “Open Barre” series at its Miami Beach studios. The Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 events will include live performances from the ballet.

Miami City Ballet will perform “West Side Story Suite” in February in a program that also features two works by George Balanchine.
