BSO Mourns Loss Of Deputy Daniel Rivera

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Broward Sheriff's deputies, family and friends are mourning the loss of deputy Daniel Rivera.

Rivera, 32, died Saturday night at Broward Health North Hospital.

Deputy Rivera was on his way to work as a road patrol deputy during the early morning hours of September 11 when his car veered off of Interstate 95 and crashed into a tree.

Deputy Rivera worked for the Broward Sheriff's Office for 10 years.

He leaves behind a 10-year-old son and a fiancée. Funeral arrangements are pending.

BSO's Traffic Homicide unit is investigating what led to the crash.

The roads were reportedly slick that day from early morning rain, but investigators don't know if weather was a factor in the crash.

Drivers that saw the crash are asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
