Volunteers Needed For Coastal Clean Up In Broward

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) – How would you like to spend an afternoon on the beach this weekend and do something good for the environment at the same time?

Well, you're in luck. The Broward County is looking for volunteers for their annual coastal cleanup event in South Florida. The cleanup will be held Saturday at more than a dozen locations throughout the county.

More than 2,400 volunteers collected 7,100 pounds of garbage during last year's international event. Almost 600,000 volunteers worldwide helped to collect nearly 10 million pounds of liter and debris in 36 countries.

Volunteers also collect information about the items found, allowing for the Ocean Conservancy to learn more about the global debris problem, develop ways to educate the public and find solutions.
