MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Elected officials, even a newly married couple will rappel down a Miami hotel Friday afternoon.

The event is part of "Over the Edge" fundraiser and, for the first time, a new component of it that was promoted on social media called "Wed Over the Edge".

The "Over the Edge" fundraiser brings together local celebrities, politicians, civic leaders, philanthropists, and some members of the public to rappel down the JW Marriott Marquis for the Miami Children's Initiative.

Among the people rappelling will be Rebecca Shackelford and Carlos Gato.

The couple won the social media contest to say their wedding vows at the top of the hotel and then rappel down the side.

Shackelford will rappel in a wedding gown donated by Chic Parisien, a bridal boutique in Coral Gables.

To participate in the "Over the Edge" event, candidates had to create their own personal fundraising page on the organization's website and also raise a minimum of $1,500 in donations.

All of the proceeds benefit Miami Children's Initiative which is a nonprofit organization focused on transforming Liberty City into a more prosperous community.
