Judge: Continue Running Backwards, Ticket Dismissed

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A South Florida man who has been jogging backwards for years now has a judge's blessing.

In April, Miami Beach Police gave Alex Mesa a $77.50 ticket for obstructing traffic because he said he was running backwards.

Police had said the ticket wasn't for running backwards, but instead it was because he was running in the street, obstructing traffic.

Monday, a judge dismissed the case and said Mesa can continue to run backwards as long as he stays in the bike lane.

Mesa said running backwards puts less strain on his body and has helped him overcome serious medical issues.

"Every time I went jogging, it felt like I was going to buy drugs, like I was sneaking out and doing something wrong and that was an uncomfortable feeling, but I wasn't going to let that stop me because I know very well I came very far to get to where I'm at," said Mesa.
