Concert Gets Students Pumped To Go Back-To-School

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – South Florida native Flo Rida will put on a concert Saturday night to get children excited for the start of school, Monday.

The free concert is meant to empower children and get them excited for the upcoming school year.

"The last vacation stop, just having to get the mind away because I know they're scared about going back to school," said parent, Didier Mbok.

Students are also pumped for the concert, but Ariel Weinberg, a fifth grader, isn't ready for the first day.

"Because we have homework and it's gonna be harder since it's a new grade and nobody likes school."

While students and parents get ready to rock out to Flo Rida, earlier Saturday, many of them rushed to stores to stock up on school supplies.

"Oh yes, the doors have been going crazy (as you can see) in and out a lot of customers coming in a lot of parents shopping for last minute supplies," said Michelle Piper-Doobey with Get Smart Superstore.

When the festivities are over Saturday night, teachers hope the students will take it easy on Sunday.

"First day of school actually starts the day before so we want them to get a goodnight sleep make sure all our kids are fed and that they have all the resources that they need," said Federick Ingram with United Teachers of Dade.
