Police: Homeowner Scared Off Would-Be Robber With Toy Gun

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) - A quick thinking homeowner scared off a would-be robber in her bedroom Monday when she grabbed a toy gun, pretending it was real, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Roland Mark Stuart, 27, is accused of breaking into the home on the 500 block of Trace Circle around 9 p.m.

The homeowner Jane Rainboth, who was sleeping at the time, awoke when her dog began barking incessantly. Police say that is when she saw Stuart standing in her bedroom.

According to the arrest warrant, Rainboth screamed, "I have a gun!" before reaching for her son's toy gun that was laying nearby.

Police say Stuart fled from the home and Rainboth called police. Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered the back door had been pried open and a screen had been cut.

Officers set up perimeter around the neighborhood and eventually arrested Stuart. Police say Rainboth positively identified Stuart as the man inside her bedroom.

Stuart is being held on $75,000 bond.
