Man Killed, Woman Injured In Miami Gardens Shooting

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) – One man was killed, a woman left in critical condition, after a shooting Saturday in Miami Gardens.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. along NW 27th Avenue near Sun Life Stadium. Police say someone fired into a car where the couple was sitting in the front and a child was in the back seat. The child wasn't hurt. Neighbors said they heard dozens of shots.

"There was a call for shots fired in the area. Our officers responded and we found a white vehicle that was hit by bullets," said Miami Gardens Detective Carlton Coleman. "One person was pronounced deceased by fire rescue, the other, the driver, she's in critical condition at Ryder Trauma and there was a child in the car but he's okay he's fine."

Family members told CBS4 the man killed was 29 years old, the woman injured was his fiancee, and the boy was his 12-year old nephew. They also said there was another man in the car, also a family member who was shot and had surgery.

Carla Johnson said the car crashed in front of her house after the shooting. She wasn't home but she said her son was.

"They knocked the mailbox next door down and our mailbox down and hit the trees and everything," said Johnson

"Right now they are trying to figure out where the cars are coming from trying to piece everything together," said Coleman who said police are asking any witnesses to come forward.
