Injured Port Everglades Worker Rescued
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue team which specializes in complex rescues was called in Sunday to assist a worker at Port Everglades injured by a cargo container.
It happened Sunday afternoon just after 1 p.m. The 52-year old worker from Lauderdale Lakes was up on the cargo containers of a ship docked at Berth 30 when one of the containers shifted and injured his leg.
The Sheriff's Technical Rescue Team was able to reach man using a tower ladder. After stabilizing and immobilizing him on the upper deck of the ship they were able to safely bring him to the ground. The rescue took under an hour.
The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
