Diver's Body Found Off Hillsboro Inlet

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — The body of a diver has been found off Hillsboro Inlet in Broward County.

The Broward Sheriff's Office reports that members of its dive team responded Tuesday morning after the U.S. Coast Guard told them about a fisherman finding a body about a quarter-mile off Pompano Beach.

The body was sent to the medical examiner's office, and homicide detectives were investigating. Detectives concluded the victim was a diver based on the equipment with the body.

Authorities weren't immediately identifying the person. However, Jeffrey Vincent, 39, was on a boat with friends over the weekend about 3 miles off Key Biscayne when he jumped into the water without his fins to assist another diver. He missed the safety line off the back of the boat and was swept away by the current. By the time his friends pulled up the anchored and turned around to help, they lost sight of him and radioed for help.

The Coast Guard, FWC, and police from Aventura and Miami-Dade police, searched for him for three days and covered 2,600 nautical miles before they called off the search.
