S. Fla. Make-A-Wish Grants 9,000th Wish

ISLAMORADA (CBSMiami) – A fishing trip off the Florida Keys for a Florida child with a serious heart condition became the 9,000th wish granted by the Southern Florida division of Make-A-Wish.

Diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect, Michael LaMore, of Fort Pierce, chose the wish over others because of his love for the ocean and a desire to see sea creatures and tropical fish.

Some 62 Make-A-Wish organizations across the United States grant wishes to children who have life-threatening medical conditions. LaMore fished Thursday aboard a charter boat with his mother, grandmother and a cousin.

Besides the fishing trip, LaMore's wish experience included a snorkeling excursion, visiting Islamorada attractions and enjoying shopping at a local outdoors retailer.
