Sister Of Dade Cop Stabbed In Texas Calls His Recovery A Miracle

MIAMI (CBS4) – A Miami-Dade police detective who was stabbed in Grapevine, Texas while transporting a prisoner is out of the hospital and will be headed home soon.

"He sounds wonderful," said Cintia Shand, 54-year-old Miami Dade Police Det. Jaime Pardinas' older sister. "He's been cracking jokes. He is a tough guy."

Pardinas was stabbed by 42-year-old Alberto Morales who being transported from Miami to Las Vegas by Pardinas and his partner. Pardinas suffered deep stab wounds to the neck, shoulder and back and a collapsed lung Monday when Morales stabbed him using a sharp piece from a pair of eyeglasses.

Morales was being taken to Nevada to serve a 30-year-to-life sentence for sexual assault.

Pardinas was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His family is calling his recovery miraculous.

"He was up and about in less than 48 hours. The tube was taken out and it's just been a miracle," said Shand.

The man suspected of stabbing a Miami-Dade Police detective is dead, shot and killed by Texas authorities.

Police caught up to Morales early Saturday morning and during a shoot out he was killed.

"It's really sad it went down that way, but it is a big relief really for everyone," said Shand.
