Sweetwater Cop Hurt In Collision With School Bus

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A Miami-Dade school bus driver may be ticketed for an accident that left a Sweetwater police officer hospitalized early Thursday morning.

According to Sweetwater police chief Roberto Fulgueira, the school bus was making a "three point" turn in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant located at SW 112nd Avenue and 152nd Street. During the turn, the driver backed out into the roadway and straight into the path of the police car.

Chief Fulgueira said the officer had "nowhere to go" and could not avoid hitting the back of the bus.

The officer, a corporal with 4 years at Sweetwater, was not at fault, according to Fulgueria.

The bus driver will likely be ticketed.

The officer was cut by flying windshield glass and also had a minor injury to his arm caused by the airbag that inflated.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The school bus driver wasn't hurt and there were no students on the bus.
