Fmr. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez Is Ripped

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – At one time he was one of the most powerful men in Miami-Dade County.

During his seven and a half year career as mayor, Carlos Alvarez was responsible the county's 2.4 million residents. It all came to an end in March, 2011 when he was ousted from office in a recall vote.

Now Alvarez is taking his pursuits to another level of a very different type of stage – a stage that former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was most comfortable on.

Alvarez has been hitting the gym and getting ripped, according to the Miami New Times.

Alvarez, 60, competed last November in the National Physique Competition South Florida body building tournament and won two of the categories including the Masters 60-plus Heavyweight competition.

Alvarez is reportedly maintaining his gym work so he can compete in another body building competition this summer.

The Miami New Times contributed to this report.
