Sarnoff Appointed New Commission Chair

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Commission will be getting a new Chairman and Vice-Chair in the new year.

After taking part in a news conference Tuesday urging people not to fire off guns at the stroke of midnight, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado announced that Marc Sarnoff would be the commission's new Chairman and Wifredo (Willy) Gort would be his second in command.

"This year's choice of Chair and Vice Chair are of particular importance because the new leadership is committed to move important projects, such as the Marine Stadium, the Guzman Center and the Investor Visa Program, forward," said Regalado.

The appointments will become effective at the first commission meeting to be held in January.

Re-elected in 2011, Sarnoff is serving his second term on the commission.

Gort was elected to the commission in 1993. In 1996, he was selected Vice Mayor, and served as acting mayor three months after the death of Mayor Stephen P. Clark.
