Father Of Teen Shot On School Bus Commits Suicide

MIAMI (CBS4) - A South Florida family reeling from the death of a 13 year old girl killed on a Homestead school bus has been dealt another devastating blow.

The father of Lourdes "Jina" Guzman-DeJesus, Armando "Alex" Guzman-Cirino, 34, was found shot to death Thursday morning, according to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald. Police believe the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Guzman-Cirino was discovered by Broward Sheriff's Deputies in his car in a Lauderdale Lakes garage. His family said he was so distraught over the untimely death of his daughter that he took his own life.

"It had to be that whole thing of guilt that really got to him,''said family friend David Font said. "I heard that he had been very depressed.''

Lourdes Guzman-DeJesus was on board her school bus on November 20 when she was shot in the neck by a bullet from a gun brought on the bus by another student, Jordyn Howe, 15. Howe has been charged with Manslaughter and Carrying A Concealed Weapon. He  is on house arrest awaiting a February hearing.

Family of Lourdes Guzman-DeJesus tell the paper that she and her father had just began to reconnect before she was killed. Guzman-Cirino had been in and out of prison much of his daughter's short life.

"He was not the model father, but I think he was trying to do the right thing too late,'' Font said.
