Broward Sheriff Office Investigate Inmate's Suicide
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate who hung himself Saturday at the Main Jail in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Another inmate saw Christopher Burner, 37, hanging from a bed sheet in his cell at approximately 1:10 p.m. and called for a detention deputy. Burner was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at about 1:57 p.m.
Burner had been charged with one count of felony battery by strangulation and two counts of battery. During a court hearing last Friday, a judge revoked Burner's bail and he was taken into custody.
The Broward Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
