Body Recovered From Medley Cement Silo

MEDLEY (CBSMiami) — A body has been recovered from a cement silo in Medley more than two weeks after a worker disappeared in a roof collapse.

According to CBS4 News partner the Miami Herald, the identity of the body has not been confirmed, however, 58-year-old Pierre Mezidor went missing when he fell into the silo filled with tightly-packed cement powder when the metal roof collapsed at Titan America on Friday, August 17th.

Mezidor dropped at least 140-feet. At first, firefighters rushed to try to rescue Mezidor but it didn't take long to realize he had been swallowed up by the cement.

Wind and rain from Tropical Storm Isaac slowed an already technically challenging operation to find Mezidor's body. The storm dumped rain into the silo that was about 70 percent full of cement powder.

"Outside experts" were brought in to help conduct the search and an attorney for the Mezidor family told the Herald there are three structural engineers investigating the scene to determine the cause of the collapse.
