Former UF Speedster Jeff Demps Becomes NFL Free Agent

TAMPA (CBSMiami) – In the NFL, you can never have too much speed on your roster. Tuesday, former Florida Gators running back/track star Jeff Demps filed to become an NFL free agent and the speculation over where the speedster will land started immediately.

According to pewterreport.com, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are "seriously interested" in signing Demps to boost the offense and special teams. Demps skipped the 2012 NFL Draft so he could concentrate on making the U.S. Olympics team.

Demps was on the silver-medal winning team that ran the 4x100 meters relay and has also been clocked as fast as 10.01 in the 100-meter dash.

Adding Demps would give the Bucs, or any NFL team, an instant jolt of speed. Demps would project to a kick/punt returner or possibly running back in the NFL.

Demps averaged 6.7 yards per carry through his four year career.
