FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The city of Fort Lauderdale has been trying to clean up the image of Stranahan Park for years, and now, they’re relying on a plant that could leave some feeling a little bit prickly.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the city has planted a cactus patch in the park to help keep the homeless from sleeping in the park. The wide-open green grass has been replaced with plants and now cacti in to keep the park clear.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the plants and other city efforts seem to be working as “just a relative few still dwell there.”

City officials told the Sun-Sentinel that more landscaping is coming to the park and that the plans are to turn it “into a true urban jungle.”
