Fans Flock To Buy Heat Championship Gear

MIAMI (CBS4) -- As the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the AmericanAirlines Area Thursday night, local retailers began receiving championship swag that fans couldn't wait to snatch up.

"I'm buying shirts for the whole family, said Heat fan Meryl Spigelman. "Cousins, uncles, bothers--everyone gets one!"

The Sports Authority in Midtown Miami stayed open through the night and into the early morning hours Friday, closing for a short time before reopening at 5:00 a.m.

"It's been a lot of fun all night and this morning and now we're doing it again," said Chris Young who is a manger at the Midtown Miami Sports Authority.

The retailer was flooded with fans all looking to purchase "Miami Heat Champions" shirts, hats, and memorabilia. The hot ticket item for fans is the locker room cap that Miami Heat players wore right after winning the NBA Finals.

"If they're wearing it in the locker room, I gotta have it," said Heat fan Ronald Pierie who waited for hours for the shipment of hats to arrive.

Many fans stayed up through the night hoping to be the first to score "Miami Heat Champions" gear. Although others like Terrie Burnie arrived at the retailer early, but planned to return.

"The next shipment is at 11--that's around lunch time--so I'll be back," said Burnie.

The retailer is expected to receive more winning Heat gear throughout the weekend.
