I-95 HOV Lane Ending Soon In Broward County

MIAMI (CBS4) - Starting next week, commuters who take northbound Interstate 95 in Broward County will have an extra lane to travel in.

On Monday, May 21st, restrictions on the the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane will be lifted, allowing solo motorists to travel in it. The change is part of phase two in the 95 Express Lane project.

The lane affected runs from Miami Gardens Drive in Miami-Dade County to Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County.

The extra lane is short-lived, however. Once Phase 2 begins in June, traffic will be shifted away from the center median and the the former HOV lane will be made into two SunPass express lanes.

Transportation officials say traffic flow disruptions and lane closures may occur during construction.
