Oakland Park "Boom Boom Room" Organizer Sentenced To Life In Prison

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – An Oakland Park man convicted of running an underage brothel learned Monday how long he will pay for his crimes.

James Mozie, 34, was sentenced to life in prison for running the brothel, dubbed the "Boom Boom Room." He was convicted in December on ten charges including sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and production of child pornography.

Federal investigators said Mozie advertised the business through mass text messages that would let people know about what was happening at the Boom Boom Room each night.

Customers would then pay a cover charge to a security guard and once inside; minors would dance for tips and engage in sex for money. The minors working for Mozie said he knew of their age and told them not to tell customers they were underage.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, several of the victims were required to have sex with him as part of an orientation which Mozie said was his way of "testing the merchandise." The victims also said Mozie took sexually explicit images of them and attached to the text messages he used to advertise.

Mozie's co-defendant, Laschell "Shelly" Harris, pled guilty to one count of sex trafficking of a minor and was sentenced to 13 year in prison in November.

Another co-defendant, Willie David Rice, pled guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a gun and was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
