Hammocks Burglary Yields Trove Of Stolen Goods

MIAMI (CBS4) – A burglary last December in Hammocks in southwest Miami-Dade led to two arrests and quite a haul of stolen property.

"We have some leads that have led us to believe that they're going to be involved in multiple cases," said Miami-Dade police Lt. Brian Rafky.

Investigators are now trying to determine whether more people are involved in what could be a ring of burglaries.

While most of the recovered items are inexpensive pieces of jewelry, police know that the watches, ear rings and bracelets have sentimental value to their owners and they would like to return them.

"Identifying this isn't so much about finding additional charges, although that would be nice, it's about trying to make victims whole and getting back their property which I know has some good value," said Rafky.

While not worth big bucks at area pawn shops or flea markets, Rafky said they are probably worth their weight in gold in family memories.

"We know that this has sentiment value to people," said Rafky, "We have some items here like a ring for a child's pre-school, we know we have items here from a first communion, items like this or of that nature."

Anyone who believes that some of the recovered property may be theirs, they are asked to contact the police department's Kendall station at (305) 279-6929.
