Opa-Locka Woman Accused Of Trying To Sell Her Baby

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An Opa-Locka woman was arrested over the weekend after she reportedly arranged to sell her 8-month old son for $7,000 to a Monroe County man.

Late Saturday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office received information from a confidential informant that 30-year old Kenia Quiala Bosque had arranged a meeting with a Keys man to sell her child.

Working with sheriff's office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arranged for an undercover agent to take part in the meeting. Bosque, however, failed to show at the arranged time and place.

Fearing for the child's safety, sheriff's deputies and FDLE agents went to Bosque's home and had enough evidence to make an arrest.

"We are just so glad we were able to obtain this information in time to intervene before anything could happen to endanger this child," said Sheriff Bob Peryam.

Bosque was booked into the Miami-Dade County jail on Sunday.

"We're in disbelief basically right now, we're in disbelief," Mily Vasquez told CBS4's Natalia Zea. Vasquez and her husband Osmani Pellegrin are caring for Bosque's three children while she's locked up in jail. Pellegrin is the father of the 6-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son he shares with Bosque. He and Vasquez also have temporary custody of Bosque's 8-month-old baby. No word on where his father is.

Speaking exclusively with CBS4 News, Vasquez and Pellegrin said that all three of her children were home at the time that FDLE agents arrested their mother.

"They do know what happened, the kids know," she said.

In Spanish, Pellegrin said, "My son told me, 'mom tried to sell the baby,' and I told him 'no she was trying to sell the baby's clothes.' To know things like that could make a child sick."

Pellegrin isn't sure what to think about the disturbing allegations.

"I don't think she could have done that. But I don't really know. I've been separated from her for a long time."

Why would Bosque want to sell a defenseless baby? Her neighbors say she was behind on the rent and facing eviction.

Vasquez says as long as the three siblings stay together- they will pull through this.

"That's the most important thing, 'cause the kids would be affected by being separated from the little baby."

Pellegrin's aunt, Cynthia Diaz, was stunned at the arrest. She's known Bosque for years.

"I'm still kind of reeling from it because I still cannot picture selling a little baby," Diaz said.

Diaz was not complimentary of Bosque.

"I mean she wasn't a good mother to begin with," Diaz said. "It's like you can never really tell a parent's character just because you know them."

Bosque is expected in court on Tuesday when she'll officially be charged. The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office may add additional charges. At this point Bosque is charged with illegal adoption.

Vasquez and Pellegrin also plan to go to a different court room tomorrow to fight for continued temporary custody of the three children.
