TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) — The death of Caylee Anthony and aquittal of her mother has led to the creation of a special Florida Senate panel on protecting children and that panel begins its work on Monday.
Senate President Mike Haridopolos, a Merritt Island Republican, created the committee in response to the acquittal of Casey Anthony.
She had been charged with murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
The Senate Select Committee on Protecting Florida’s Children meets for the first time Monday.
One proposal it’s expected to consider would make it a crime for parents who fail to report a child’s disappearance to police within one or two days.
Anthony waited a month before telling her family that Caylee was missing.
The panel can make recommendations to the full Senate.
