Body Found Off Port Everglades May Be Missing Diver

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – The body of a man found off Port Everglades is believed to be that a diver who went missing Sunday afternoon off Haulover Inlet.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, they along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, searched a 62-year old man who went missing while diving from a private 25 foot boat about three miles north of the inlet.

The man was last seen about 300 yards north of the boat when he reportedly surfaced and began swimming toward the shore, according to the Coast Guard which took over the search.

His friends in the boat then lost sight of him and called for help.

Around 5 p.m., the Broward Sheriff's Office was alerted by a boater who spotted scuba gear in the water. Deputies found the a man's body about a mile and half from shore off the port.

The sheriff's office has not confirmed that this is the missing diver, only that a body has been recovered.

The name of the missing man has not been released.
