Weston Man Kills Himself During BSO Standoff

WESTON (CBS4) – Broward Sheriff's deputies and the department's SWAT team surrounded a home in Weston after a man barricaded himself inside after he allegedly attacked his wife.  Hours later, after communications with the man broke down, he was found him dead inside.

The sheriff's office said it began just after 7 a.m. when they received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at home located at 400 Bonaventure Boulevard in Weston. Arriving deputies and paramedics found a woman with a superficial bullet graze wound in her shoulder. She was taken to the nearby Cleveland Clinic for treatment, CBS4's Kara Kostanich reported.

Neighbors were stunned by the incident.

"Oh gosh that's horrible," neighbor Kia Barrett said. "Yeah, that's horrible."

After the man refused to come out, a sheriff's deputies SWAT team was called in to assist.  Sheriff's deputies closed the road in front of the home to traffic.  Chopper4 spotted several SWAT members staged in front of the home next door with one person stationed on the roof.
Neighbor Amy Sundberg said the incident is a reflection of the times.

"I think the way society is right now, everybody is just a little gun happy," she said. "Everybody's a little crazy. Times are hard and people are stressing and struggling."

Just before 10:30 a.m. a tank-like vehicle with a battering ram on the front broke through the home's front door.

The tank-like vehicle then systematically went through the bushes and shrubbery around the front yard to see if anyone was hiding in it.  It then moved to the side yard, through a fence and into the backyard.

In the early afternoon, the man stopped talking with the sheriff's department.   As SWAT members prepared to take the house, a robot was sent in first.  It found the body of the homeowner who had taken his own life.
