Dolphins Make Roster Moves, Cut 27 By Deadline

DAVIE (CBSMiami) - In a tough day for Dolphins management, the team met the NFL deadline for cutting the 2011 roster to 53 players, making the final cuts just before the 6 PM deadline.

20 players were waived before the deadline, 6 had their contract terminated, and 1, T. Lyndon Murtha, was it on the injured reserved list.

Two solid players lost contracts, Cornerback Will Allen and Running Back Larry Johnson, victims of the numbers game. Surviving the cuts were two other players who had been considered on the bubble, WR Marlon Moore and DB Nolan Carroll.

The Dolphins announced the player moves just before 7 p.m. Saturday.

  • WR John Matthews
  • CB Nate Ness
  • LB David Nixon
  • QB Kevin O' Connell
  • WR Julius Pruitt
  • S Mark Restelli
  • LB Robert Rose
  • TE Mickey Shuler
  • LB Quinton Spears
