Miami Art Museum Job Fair Targets Construction Workers

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The construction industry has been among the hardest hit in South Florida during the Great Recession. But a job fair at the Miami Art Museum Friday is hoping to help change the problem.

The jobs available will be to help construct the new Miami Art Museum in Museum Park. Among the jobs available will be: carpenters; electricians; plumbers; sheet metal workers; and pipe fitters among others.

A total of 300 jobs will need to be filled to help get the new art museum constructed.

For workers like Karl Mena, the job fair comes at a perfect time.

"I'm really trying to find work," said Mena. "It's challenging, you know, unemployed and not having ends and means to support or help out."

The construction firm handling the build said they are hiring local workers to put money back into the local economy.

The job fair runs from to 2 p.m. at 1075 Biscayne Blvd in Miami. Parking is available by entering on NE 11th Street.
