Tropical Depression 7 Forms East Of Bermuda

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The 7th tropical depression of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season formed Saturday evening near Bermuda, prompting island officials to immediately place the island under a Tropical Storm watch. The storm is not currently a threat to the US.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, the depression was located at 27.9 north latitude and 61.6 west longitude, about 360 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. The storm is headed west-northwest at about 10 mile per hour.

Maximum sustained winds were reported at 35 mph, just short of tropical storm force. If the storm intensifies as expected, it should become Tropical Storm Gert.
