Nearly 60,000 Pills Turned In During Sheriff's Weston Event

WESTON (CBS4) – A pill 'take back' and shred-a-thon event in Weston has been deemed a success by the Broward Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, hundreds of people showed up at the department's district office on Royal Palm Boulevard to take part in Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon. Approximately 15,000 documents were shredded and 58,000 unused or expired prescription pills were turned in, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. Those who turned in pills were given $5 gift cards while supplies lasted.

BSO said the shred-a-thon provided residents with a safe way to dispose of their documents which contained sensitive personal information like check stubs, credit card statements and various receipts.
