Fisherman Killed After Storm Capsizes Boat Off Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) - Thursday afternoon's stormy weather proved deadly for a boater off the shores of Pompano Beach.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says two fisherman were about 1 1/2 miles off-shore when the storm caught them by surprise.

The powerful wind and choppy water capsized the 13 ft. boat, throwing the men into the water.

Official say neither of them were wearing life jackets and were not good swimmers.

The surviving man was able to cling to the boat until a passing boat came to his aid. The other fisherman was not able to hold on to the side of the boat and he eventually slipped under the water. His body was found by boaters near just north of the Hillsboro Inlet a short time later.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family.
