Assisted Living Facility Owner Arrested In $100K Medicaid Fraud Case

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4)-A Broward County assisted living facility owner was arrested after she allegedly defrauded the Florida Medicaid program out of more than $100,000.

Duanne Bewley was arrested Tuesday on a felony warrant by the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit with assistance from the Plantation Police Department. Bewley is currently being held in the Broward County jail.

An investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit revealed that Bewley, owner of Tara Faith Manor Assisted Living Facility at 551 East Evanston Circle in Fort Lauderdale, allegedly defrauded the Medicaid program out of more than $100,000 by billing the Medicaid program for additional individuals who did not actually reside at the licensed facility.

The facility was licensed by the Medicaid program to provide a living unit, food services and medication management for up to six elderly persons or disabled adults.

Bewley is charged with one count of grand theft and one count of Medicaid fraud, both first-degree felonies.

If convicted, she faces up to 60 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution.
