N4N In Your Community: Sawgrass Nature Center Needs Volunteers

WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Out near the edge of the Florida Everglades, The Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital helps injured animals, and educates the community about Ecology.

"We take in nature, orphan wildlife animals, and the animals that can't find homes we take in," explained Dotty Molski, the center's Executive Director.

From volunteer programs to summer camps for kids, the center looks to engage everyone in the environment.

"We are creating the next generation of animal care givers," says Molski.

And according to her team, it comes full circle.

"We see our students and camp graduate to be counselor, they bring everything we teach them to their families," said Molski.

This Earth Day, they're reaching out for help from volunteers and donors to keep programs and the hospital running – especially this spring during baby season.

"Baby season lasts about 8 months, and they need to be cared for around the clock," explained Molski, adding "we have to meet our day to day expenses to keep it running. We have to keep this around or else the animals will suffer and die."

It's all in hopes that future helping hands will continue to connect our community to the wildlife around us.
