No Parking? Just Leaf It Here

HIALEAH (CBSMIami.com) - Parking under a tree to avoid turning your car into an oven is not uncommon in South Florida, but parking in a tree? That's for the birds, but it didn't stop one South Florida driver from ending his trip up a tree without a ladder, a weird parking spot even for crazy South Florida drivers.

It happened in Hialeah, where police investigating say speed was somehow to blame, but even they are not sure how the driver left the ground and ended up in a branch parking spot.

The van left earth near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 21st Street in Hialeah late Friday morning. Hialeah Police spokesperson Detective Eddie Rodriguez said three people were inside the van, which was apparently speeding, when the driver apparently lost control, struck a guy-wire attached to a utility pole, and rode that wire right into the tree.

Detective Rodriguez said the three people in the van jumped to the ground and decided to leave, leaving their ride in the un-metered parking spot. Rodriguez said officers were able to locate the driver at home and arrest him. Two other people in the van were still at large.

Rodriguez did not have the name of the driver, and could not say what charges he faced.

Chances are good, however, that this will be one parking ticket that will be hard to explain away in court.
