MIAMI (CBS4) -A South Florida man will serve his 15 days jail sentence for starving seven horses that were discovered in 2009 stuck in the mud.

Lewis Chisholm was convicted Friday of misdemeanor animal abuse charges. He also was sentenced to a year of probation.

Miami-Dade County Judge Andrew Hague also ordered Chisholm to give the horses to the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

During Chisholm’s trial, prosecutors said the horses’ ribs were visible, their legs were swollen and their hooves were untreated. Veterinarians testified that the horses were left unfed and exposed to the rain, sun and mud for weeks.

On the stand, Chisholm said he took care of the horses. He rejected a deal to settle the case through a pretrial diversion program if he gave up the animals.

That’s it! 15 easy days in jail, a year of probation, that’s it! Are you kidding me? Those horses suffered for weeks out in the hot sun with NO water, NO food, stuck in the mud unable to move, This piece of c#%& should be chained to a post out in the hot sun with NO food and NO water for 2 weeks and see how it feels, These horses could not fend for themselves!

I am disappointed that at the very least I’m not seeing a ban on owning, or being around, animals for the probation period. So, what? In 15 days when he gets out of jail he can go to the auction and pick up some other poor horses and starve and neglect THEM?
