Good 4 You: Music Charity Brings Melody To Kid's Lives

PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4) - CBS4 continues our commitment to bring you the stories that are Good 4 You.  This week's story is about striking up the band.

Two teenagers held an impromptu concert at a South Florida orphanage. Their goal was to teach them more than just music.

Supporters say music can teach, but its more than just the notes. It can leave its mark and create a connection.

Abe Evans and Felipe Jaramillo, both 17, have started their own charity called Strings for Hope.

"It is really nice to see when I am connecting with kids. It is easier to connect with music. They have that moment when they play the chord and you are on the same wave length," said Abe Evans, founding member of Strings for Hope.

The goal of Strings for Hope is to visit orphanages and teach kids about music. One lesson took place at His House Academy in Miami Gardens, but they hope to do more than just teach music notes.

"Not just lessons, but actually give them guitars so they can actually practice with it and that is what we are raising money for," said Felipe Jaramillo, founding member of Strings for Hope.

And the influence can already be seen and heard.

"I think it is something that these kids need to see how other people do care and that they are willing to give of their time and experiences to show us something as well," said Vivian Hernandez, a teacher at His House Academy.

The program is really striking a chord with kids who are looking for a place to call their own.

"It really does have an impact mentally on the kids. It is going to give them hope as far as their underprivileged situation," said Evans.

The first musical concert to benefit Strings for Hope will be Sunday, February 20th at the Talent Farm in Pembroke Pines.
