FIU Loses To S. Alabama 86-78

MOBILE, Ala. (CBS4) -- Augustine Rubit had a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds, and South Alabama rallied past Florida International 86-78 on Saturday night.

Trailing 72-70 with 3:48 to play, the Jaguars scored 10 unanswered points for an 80-72 advantage with 1:22 to play. The Jaguars stretched the lead to 86-74 before FIU made its first field goal in more than 3 minutes with 17 seconds left.

The Jaguars (8-10, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) made all 12 of their free throw attempts in the final 2:20.

FIU trailed by as many as 14 points early in the second half.

Martino Brock added 19 points and Tim Williams had 14 for the Jaguars, who snapped a four-game losing streak. The Jaguars have won nine of the past 11 in the series.

Alex Legion scored 23 points, Marvin Roberts had 21 and DeJuan Wright 15 for FIU (8-11, 3-4), which lost its fourth consecutive game.
