Unique Gift Idea: Attack Purse On Auction For Charity

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (CBS4) -- Looking for a unique last-minute holiday gift? Try eBay for a little slice of history in the form of a purse.

This purse is like no other, it was used to whack a man who shot up a Bay City School Board meeting Dec. 14 before taking his own life.

As the board was in the midst of a discussion when Clay A. Duke walked to the front of the room, spray painted a red "V" with a circle around it on the white wall, then turned and waved a handgun. He calmly ordered everyone to "hit the road" except the men on the board sitting behind a long beige desk.

That is when a Ginger Littleton walked up behind him and whacked him with her purse before he convinced her she needed to leave.

Despite his shock, Bay City Schools Superintendent Bill Husfelt mustered a calm voice and tried to persuade Duke to drop the gun, but the 56-year-old ex-convict just shook his head, blaming officials for his wife being fired.

Video showed him slowly raising the gun and leveling it at Husfelt, who pleaded "Please don't, please don't."

While things did not end well for Duke, Littleton decided to turn the incident into a chance for charity and donated her purse for auction on eBay. But the purse  was removed by eBay because it did not meet their legal requirements for charitable fundraising.

Now the purse has returned to eBay and remains open for bids until Tuesday.

Proceeds will go to a charity run by District Security Chief Mike Jones who shot and wounded Husfelt from about eight feet away. Jones, who is a Salvage Santa, gathers toys for needy children during the holidays.

Bidding for the popular purse is up to $1,200.
