HIALEAH (CBS4) – Two people, including a police officer, were hospitalized following an early-morning collision in Hialeah.
According to Hialeah Det. Carl Zogby, a 48-year-old man driving a 2011 Chevy Aveo ran a stop sign at the intersection of E. 8th Avenue and 13th Street and crashed into a Hialeah police cruiser.READ MORE: NBA fines Miami Heat $25,000 for violating 'bench decorum'

The Aveo spun out of control and slammed into a tree. The driver was partially ejected from the car. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Det. Zogby says officers on the scene smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the Chevy Aveo. Blood tests will be taken to confirm if alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
