S Miami Wants A $1.2M Pool

MIAMI (CBS4) -- It appears that South Miami commissioners are about to approve plans for a $1.2 million pool at Murray Park.

CBS4's news partner The Miami Herald is reporting that official will soon choose a company to construct the pool before the city loses county grant money for missing project deadlines. The city lost $200,000 from the county grants earlier this year because it failed to meet one, according to The Herald.

"If you get the dollars, you have to show that you can use the dollars,'' City Manager Hector Mirabile told The Herald. "That's why I'm pushing this thing."

Two companies are vying for the pool contract; Oakland Park-based Recreational Design and Construction, and Pompano Beach-based Di Pompeo Construction Corporation. A management company also is being sought.

Plans show the pool being built on 1 acre. One proposal is for a 4,000-square-foot pool with lap lanes, and the other suggests constructing separate pools for exercise, recreation and children.

The project is expected to be finished next year.
