Accident On I-95 Kills 36-Year-Old Woman

HOLLYWOOD -- (CBS4) -- A 36-year-old woman died in an I-95 highway accident Thursday night.

Florida Highway Patrol said Tarita Jonas, of Tamarac, was driving in a 2000 Toyota Avalon on I-95 south when her car sideswiped a 2010 BMW 750i. It caused Jonas' car to lose control and veer to the left striking the concrete barrier wall. The accident occurred at 6:10 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-95 just north of Pembroke Road.

Jonas was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The passengers in the BMW identified as 46-year-old Osvaldo Defaria Jr. and 47-year-old Susan Defaria, of Weston, and they were not injured.

The accident also caused major delays on I-95 south and passengers were rerouted off the highway. All lanes have since been cleared.
