Guide To Carnaval Miami 2014

Carnaval Miami is an incredible concept featuring charity, the arts and culture in South Florida. The 37-year-old Carnaval Miami raises funds for charitable organizations and community service initiatives via the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana including the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Foundation. Events hosted by Carnaval Miami each year include such happenings as the wildly popular Calle Ocho Music Festival and the arts-focused Carnaval on the Mile. These family-friendly events provide wonderful ways to have a lot of fun while benefitting great causes, meeting other people in the community, enjoying the arts and even finding great ways to lead healthy lifestyles.

The early morning Carnaval Miami Run is held on the stunning Virginia Key Beach in Key Biscayne with some of the most inspiring views in South Florida. It includes a 5K Run/Walk, 8K Run and a Kiddie Dash. Children of all ages may participate in the Kiddie Dash and each receives a medal. The day culminates in Latin cuisine and salsa music for a great celebration on the beach. A portion of the proceeds of this event will benefit the Children's Cancer Caring Center.

16th Annual Carnaval on the Mile

Date: March 1-2, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The 16th Annual Carnaval on the Mile is an incredible arts-focused cultural event spanning two days on Coral Gables' famed Miracle Mile. Both days feature 12 hours of festivities that include one mile of art on display from over 120 artists with such media as jewelry, paintings and sculpture. Local restaurants provide excellent food and the family event also has great adult beverages on hand such as cocktails from Bacardi. This free open-air event also offers multiple stages for live performances by such musical guests as Asaf Avidan, Black Violin, Suenalo and Locos Por Juana. The second day of the weekend event includes a special cooking contest sponsored by Winn-Dixie.

"Putting for Education" Golf Classic

Registration and lunch for the Golf Classic are all held before noon and the afternoon of golfing culminates in a 5 p.m. dinner and awards ceremony. Golfing foursomes register to play for $1,000. This event is unique in that proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Foundation as well as Miami Dade College Medical Campus. Specifically, it will benefit Hispanic minority students in Miami-Dade County to be able to receive full four-year scholarships to college.

The Calle Ocho Music Festival is one of the most anticipated cultural/music events each year in South Florida. The expansive block party and street festival features great art for sale, incredible food from Latin cultures, dancing, music and so much more. The festival is appropriate for visitors of all ages and there are various stages set up around the area for great live entertainment. Some of this year's featured musicians include Leslie Grace, Frankie Negron, El Valiente-T and the Celia Cruz All-Stars.

Carnaval Miami Soccer is a fun, family-oriented event promoting sports, fitness and healthy living as is the ethos of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana. Over 100 teams participate in various games through the morning and afternoon including matches for children, teens and adults. Players are of skill levels ranging from recreational to competitive. Registration is $150 and all participants receive free tshirts.
