Stop and Shop
2 Locations 5500 Ponce De Leon Blvd 4900 S. LeJeune Rd
Coral Gables, Fl. 33146
A beer lover can get lost in here. Rack after rack of beers from around the US and around the world. Names you've heard of, and names that are a discovery. Chances are good, if it's brewed, at least a few cases will end up here. Stop and Shop is nominally a convenience store, and they do sell things like chips, subs, and some hot food, along with a good selection of wines for those who prefer the grape. But it's the beer which draws people from across South Florida. How about a Gonzo Imperial Porter? Purple Haze. Dogfish Head Pangea. The list goes on and on. And on. If you want something special, don't be afraid to ask. They may have it in the back. just waiting for shelf space. Prices are a bit higher than traditional stores, if you could find some of this stuff there. Worth a drive if you love beer, or if you want to.
Sunset Corners Wine and Liquors
8701 SW 72nd St
Miami, FL 33173
This store is known for it's wine, and the selection it offers in that regard is really amazing, but for beer lovers, this place offers it's own inducements. The shop offers m ore than 300 beers from around the world, and another 280 from here in the US. How about a Panil Barriquee Oak-Aged Sour Red Ale from Italy? Set you back almost $20, but the bottle is big enough to share. That's an 1 of an amazing selection, and as you can imagine, they don't always have every brand in stock every day. But that's where technology steps up. Their website offers a complete list of what they offer, so you can browse online, find what you like and order it for home delivery (shipping charges) or store pickup (free!). What's more, for those who are into sampling, their prices are by the bottle at mostly reasonable prices. For beer lovers, the chance to shop at home, have it shipped to your door, or pick it up for immediate gratification is almost too much.
Whole Foods Market
6701 Red Rd 11701 S Dixie Hwy Miami, FL 33156
Coral Gables, FL 33143, 11701 S Dixie Hwy Miami, FL 33156
There are places with larger beer selections, but how many of them offer organic beer? You can find it at Whole Foods, which is a giant supermarket for those who believe organic is better. The craft beer selection is large, but with the exception of a few unusual items like the aforementioned organic beer, you won't find as many unusual or unpredictable items here as you would at other places mentioned on the list. However, you can make 50 visits and can always find something different to like each time. One caveat; they don't sell beer in Sunday, be crafty during the week. Oh, and for those unfortunates who like the beer but, for health reasons, can't have the alcohol, Whole Foods offers a decent selection of no-alcohol brews, including the best-of-breed Clausthaler.
Yo Beer Guys
We've included this new Miami business in this guide, even though you can't walk in and buy beer, because it's a unique idea that could make brick-and-mortar shopping less important. Started by a beer lover who was frustrated by driving from store to store looking for his favorite craft beer, Yo Beer Guys provides you with an online catalog of available beers you can order for delivery by one of their own beer guys. They offer gift packs, a sample case, or the ability to build your own case online. If you don't see what you like, you can leave them e-mail. They'll order it (often easier for a business to do than an individual) and deliver it to your door. They call themselves beer geeks, and based on the odd beers offered, they may be right. One extra: they also deliver craft beers in kegs if you're having a party.
Total Wine and More
Arena Shops 14750 Biscayne Boulevard
North Miami, FL 33181
Additional locations in Broward and Palm Beach County The company claims to offer 2500 beers, and while I couldn't verify that, they do offer a huge selection so beer, from the major brands to an impressive selection of craft brews. If you've heard of it, you'll probably find it here, If you haven't heard of it, chances are good you can do a lot of discovery, sort of a Beer Columbus. It your on a mission to discover your own favorite, this is the place for you because they sell most beers by the bottle, letting you build your own eclectic sixer or case. It is a chain store, so prices are reasonable, and of course, if your tastes go beyond beer, they have a huge wine and spirits selection. A bit sterile, like shopping in a boozy supermarket, but who cares. It's all about the beers!
