While there's a plethora of fitness options in South Florida, many would say that nothing compares to a good old-fashioned run. The emergence of run clubs in the fitness scene has quickly grown in popularity, providing new opportunity for locals to exercise and socialize. The best running clubs in South Florida are distinctive and established, and get locals excited about working out, building camaraderie and fostering friendships in the community and across the South Florida area.

The Nike South Beach Run Club is part of the Run Club Network, an organization whose vision is part fitness, part community gathering. Since its inception in 2009, this fast-growing group focuses on effective fitness while meeting with a variety of new and interesting people. Every Thursday evening, runners gather near Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue to get in a good run. Distances range from 5K to 10K (or three to six miles). Monthly social events like photo hunts and parties highlight the social aspect of the club, but it shares the spotlight with the fitness aspect of the experience. Joining the club is free and only requires the completion and signing of a waiver to get started.

At Miami Runners Club, it's all about the running. Four training programs are available: Performance Runners Club, focusing on technique and strength improvement; Interval Training, emphasizing fitness, speed and race performance improvements; Long Run/Walk, focusing on endurance; and Marathon Training, specifically designed for first timers or those wanting to improve their full marathon performances. Meeting days run from Tuesdays to Saturdays depending on the training program. The program is designed and maintained by five coaches; their specialties include interval training and performance running. Members receive a vast list of valuable benefits, including marathon training, performance running classes and discount programs for local races.

The Run Club at Hunger 4 Fitness is an integral part of the organization's specific focus of fostering physical fitness. In addition to the run club, Hunger 4 Fitness offers personal training, boot camps and nutritional education. Members of all ages and fitness levels take part in the run club to achieve optimal physical fitness through running and walking. Membership is free; new members can join by completing the online form. Bootcamp sessions take place on various days, including Saturday and Sunday.

Community involvement paired with improving fitness is the central focus of this long-established run club. Active since 1972, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Road Runners Club has helped local individuals and families build healthy lifestyles and social partnership. A team of coaches manages the run club and provides invaluable information on important subjects like training for a race, race etiquette and offer encouragement. Annual and bi-annual memberships are available for individuals, students and families. Fun walks and track workouts meet five days a week (excluding Monday and Friday). Social events like monthly pizza socials take place after run events or weekly workouts. The GFLRRC is a member of the Florida USA Track and Field organization, as well as an originating member of the Road Runners Association of America.
