A small plane made an emergency landing south of Florida City Friday morning. Initial reports said the plane came down in shallow water near MM 119 on US1, and that those aboard are unhurt.

Brush Fire Near Card Sound Road Controlled

Continuing dry conditions helped the spread of a brush fire near Card Sound Road and US1 south of Florida City, but late Saturday afternoon, firefighters who worked all day on the blaze believed they had it mostly contained.

An armed man was shot and killed late Thursday night at a Homestead Chevron station after police got into a confrontation with a man who employees said was acting suspicious. It’s still not certain why the officer opened fire.
