House Eyes ‘Sin Taxes’ For Strip Clubs, Roll-Your-Own Shops

Patrons of strip clubs and adult theaters would have to pay a state surcharge before going in, under a proposal being looked at by state lawmakers who also want to close a tax loophole enjoyed by roll-your-own cigarette shops.

No Lap Dances On State Dollars

State officials would have to make electronic state benefits cards unusable at liquor stores, gambling establishments and strip clubs under a bill that passed the House easily on Thursday, but over the objections of Democrats who said it was a political posturing bill that capitalizes on a stereotype about the poor.
