Costa Rica Hangs On To Beat Greece In Shootout

With his team down to 10 men for nearly an hour, Keylor Navas made sure Costa Rica’s last line of defense held firm. The goalkeeper came through with a string of stops in regulation and extra time and then made the only save in a penalty shootout to send Costa Rica through to the World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday with a win over Greece.

Costa Rica And Greece Battle For Spot In Quarterfinals

This World Cup just got a whole lot easier for Costa Rica. According to the rankings, anyway. Having left former champions Uruguay, Italy and England behind to sensationally win their group – one of the toughest at the World Cup – the Costa Ricans line up against their lowest-ranked opposition so far in Greece in the second round on Sunday.

Ivory Coast Can Advance With Win Over Greece

After a troubled start, the smiles are returning to West Africa at the World Cup. Nigeria has earned its first victory after a stalemate with Iran, and Ghana held Germany to a 2-2 draw after losing to the United States. Now Ivory Coast is looking for a place in the last 16 by beating Greece after its earlier loss to Colombia.
